China’s Largest Single-unit Capacity Plateau Mountain Wind Power Project Enters Full-capacity Operat

July 19, with the successful grid connection of the final wind turbine, the expansion project of Juliangliang Wind Farm under China Datang — China’s plateau mountain wind power project featuring the largest single-unit capacity — achieved full-capacity power generation, injecting strong momentum into the expansion of regional new energy industries and the green and low-carbon transition.
 
Located in Jinyuan Township, Xundian County, Kunming City, the Juliangliang Wind Farm Expansion Project sits at an average altitude of 3,239 meters. Boasting a total installed capacity of 158.22 MW, the project is equipped with 3 wind turbines of 8.34 MW and 12 units of 11.1 MW.
 
Upon commissioning, it is expected to generate around 462 million kWh of clean electricity annually. This will save approximately 140,000 tons of standard coal, cut carbon dioxide emissions by about 380,000 tons, and cover the yearly power demand of 180,000 three-person households.
 
Taking advantage of the region’s abundant wind resources, the project adopts customized large-capacity wind turbine units. Breaking the constraints of conventional mountain wind power equipment, the units are well adapted to special operating conditions on plateaus including complex terrain, low temperatures and strong winds.
 
The scheme greatly improves wind energy utilization efficiency and power generation stability, enabling intensive and efficient exploitation of plateau mountain wind resources. It sets a new benchmark for improving quality and efficiency of high-altitude wind power development nationwide.
 
The successful realization of full-capacity operation fully demonstrates China’s advanced technologies and robust construction capabilities in building plateau mountain wind farms.
